This morning I woke up early, cancelled a portrait session and while I tried to stay up for a bit I ended up succumbing to the laziness of this rainy Sunday by sleeping away the middle of the day.

I woke up a couple of hours later to the sound of rain patting on the window and loved the way the grey window light and soothing tap completely fed my need for a lazy rainy day.

I decided to take pictures of my kitty on her favourite spot, watching the rain on this sleepy Fall afternoon.

As a photographer it probably doesn't come to too much of a surprise that I love taking portraits! But taking portraits during the fall season is so invigorating because of the intense colour and texture that surrounds us during this time.

Today I had my first official Fall Family Portrait and by the time I left I was walking on air after having the amazing opportunity to utilize all of the incredible outlets our environment offered us for this fantastic session.

I am so excited to create many more vibrant portraits within the next couple of months.

Shana Tova! Happy New Year to EVERYONE (no matter your faith)!!

( I will not take credit for this image, I found it online! Tonight was a last minute posting and I really wanted to talk about Rosh Hashanah! So Thank you to whoever this photographer is who took this great apple and honey shot!! - I'll try to take one of my own and add it soon)

I am not religious, and have unfortunately not been to the synogogue for the High Holidays in too long. Going to College and moving away from home interrupted the tradition, which is a pity because I would definitely say that Rosh Hashanah is my most favourite High Holiday. Though I missed the boat again this year, I will make sure I participate from now on.

But rather than apologize for my religious downfalls, what I really want to talk about is why Rosh Hashanah brings out such a happy feeling of nostalgia for me;

Rosh Hashanah means missing school to dress up in party shoes.

Rosh Hashanah means stepping through mounds and mounds of fall leaves on our way to shul.

Rosh Hashanah means collecting the best ones and pressing them to admire later, even though I never remember the "later" part.

Rosh Hashanah means holding my mother's hand and smelling her perfume. Scrounging for mints in her purse.

Rosh Hashanah means hearing the shofar being blown again and again. Feeling excitement, and empowerment but not really knowing why.

Rosh Hashanah means listening to the Cantor's heavenly voice, never understanding what he's singing, yet knowing all the words.

Rosh Hashanah means apples, honey and challah.

Rosh Hashanah means family and good family friends.

Rosh Hashanah means New Year. Fresh start. Clean slate.

To me, this is the more logical time for a new year. Maybe it's because of the new year of school starting at this time and being used to this throughout our lives? All I know is that fall gives us this general feeling of having a fresh beginning mixed with crisp air and fall leaves, and that's what Rosh Hashanah means to me.

DAY 4 - September 26, 2011 - Last night's root vegetable stew! Made with carrots, butternut squash, turnip, parsnip, and sweet potato, among other spices and flavours!

YUM! What is it about root vegetables that just warms your whole body and completely taps into your sudden need for hibernation? Today I'm eating it for lunch! Always better the next day!

P.S. ok! so the 2nd and 3rd days of fall got lost in the shuffle! But it was the weekend!! What can I say??

DAY 1 - Today is September 23rd, the first day of fall. This time of year fills me up with so much happiness and romance that I decided to make a tribute album and every day photograph one thing about fall that makes me happy. I want to appreciate every second of this season.

My first tribute is to the Sookie Stackhouse Novels by Charlaine Harris (the series that True Blood is based after). My fiance bought the box set for me on my birthday two falls ago. I spent the entire fall reading them and it seems that every time I get the latest version it always seems to be fall again! Right now I'm reading Dead Reckoning (which I got for this year's birthday) and have fallen right back into that familiar cozy feeling of curling up on the couch, with a hot drink and my girl, Sookie Stackhouse.

WOW! Is all I have to say!

It was a real treat to help Vanessa put together her modeling portfolio earlier this week. She is new to the industry but you'd never know it the way she carries herself and feels comfortable easing into poses. She was a photographer's dream with a beauty that blows you away! But don't let her beauty intimidate you, she is completely down to earth and not afraid to get her hands dirty!

The fun thing about this session is that the entire series was photographed along the same walking path near my place. We created so many different looks in such a short amount of distance and time!

Little Owen Dominic David came to this world on July 20, 2011.
We decided to go back to the same spot where mommy Natasha had her maternity portraits taken, Natural Natasha. It was neat to be able to experience our newborn portraits with the more wistful back lit afternoon light, as opposed to the morning light from our maternity session. This was also the first time I've photographed a newborn in a natural environment, and I gotta say it's a ton of fun! There's a whole new element of creativity to explore!

Owen was a little delight, and I wish him and his family lots of future happy memories together!

I can't think of a better way to surprise the girl you love on your 3rd year Anniversary.

Chris HATES having his picture taken, which is something that the photogenic Amanda could never understand and wished so badly that he would pose in more pictures with her!

It's one of those gifts that all of us girls would kill for! It's the kind that we don't even realize we want but that we hope our partner will hear between the lines and surprise us with the most romantic gesture that really shows just how much he's willing to do for us. Way to go Chris, you've set the bar for the rest of the guys out there!

Not only that, though this may seem like any ordinary park, it's a safe haven for Amanda and one with memories of trust and growth in they're beautiful relationship.

New Limits!

Today was a day of experimenting and pushing my limits even further!

Baby Jolomi was a trooper as I molded her every which way! We made this shoot entirely nude, which was something I haven't really pushed myself to do enough yet. Luckily the accidents were few and Jolomi seemed to love the freedom!

The winning shot was of little Jolomi propping her head up with her hands. This has been rumoured to be quite the difficult task so knowing me I felt compelled to meet the challenge. Thanks Candice for teaming up with me to try and figure out the best way to make this happen, we make a great team!

Pemi Paull - Viola Soloist

This week my cousin, Pemi Paull, came to Toronto from Montreal for a solo viola recital at The Music Gallery. He did a phenomenal job, and the pieces he performed were mesmerizing!

As quoted from his website to offer some insight into Pemi's extensive and impressive experience; "Pemi Paull's activities have brought him to the forefront of Montréal’s contemporary music world. He is the founder and artistic director of Warhol Dervish, an original and unorthodox chamber music collective, as well as a member of three of Montréal’s most important new music ensembles: Bradyworks, Ensemble Kore, and SMCQ. He has premiered works for viola by André Ristic, Rose Bolton, Emily Hall, Michael Oesterle, and Tim Brady. He gave the Canadian premiere of Prologue, for viola and electronic resonator, by French composer Gerard Grisey to critical acclaim. In the sphere of historical performance, Pemi is a member of Ensemble Caprice, with whom he has recorded four discs for Analekta, winning a Juno in the process. After the long wait of dealing with insurance and back orders, I finally have my beautiful brand new photography gear back in my hands!

The Busiest Genie of Them All!

This past weekend was a ton of fun getting excited for the Holiday Season with the ARP Christmas Promotion!

I decided to showcase the wonderful Guerra Haliska Family and to talk a little about the amazing Hanna Guerra and why she deserves so much attention!

Hanna is the owner of The Busy Genie daycare center in Kingsway Village, 2885 Bloor St. W. She is the busiest genie of them all, running and owning her daycare business which has got to be the most successful in the area! Not only is this because of the incredible features of her daycare, including an entire village of playhouses/shops for the children, along with a ball pool and slides! But it is also because of Hanna's amazing personality and involvement with the women and families in Etobicoke.

When Hanna first met me I couldn't believe her willingness to help me promote my work and since then she has consistently supported and encouraged me, wanting to share any knowledge she has about promoting a successful business, while I soak her up like a sponge! I was so excited when Hanna wanted to partake in the Christmas Promotion weekend! Rockin' Rockwood!

The Watton's are such a beautiful family inside and out!
I enjoyed strolling through the Rockwood Conservation Area with them and though our sense of direction was slightly off, our round about route definitely made for some great shots!
The Watton's make a large family of 8 when all of their furry siblings are included in the mix, and everyone came for the excursion, including Fur the cat, who walked along with us for the whole 2 hour session! It was remarkable to see a kitty walking with a leash and certainly got the attention from fellow hikers!

It was so nice to share with the Philips their special place that reminds them of happy memories and love. Having a park two doors down from their house has made visiting it part of their daily routine, and it was such a great experience to make a keepsake of this time in their life.

I had a wonderful morning with the Durkin's in the beautiful high park!
The amount of energy their little monkeys had was incredible! Running up and down hills, exploring the "woods", throwing leaves! Their brotherly love is so special, I couldn't get over their adorable bond!

I had such a great time with the Matthews this past weekend!

Our session was very inventive! Instead of yelling SMILE we chose STRAWBERRY! That word will have a whole other meaning for me now! I'll always think of the little Sloane's shining smile whenever I hear it!

STRAWBERRY!! :)

And Laura couldn't have been more creative in finding "interesting" and "hilarious" things that just happen to be behind my head! lol! Like cyclists, and birds that I don't think were actually even there! It was remarkable! No matter what Laura would say, Sloane's gorgeous face would light right up! So cute!

Wonderfully Waterloo

The Jeffrey's and I spent this past Sunday at Waterloo Park. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to spend outside and the Jeffrey's have got to be the nicest people you'll ever meet!

It was such a treat to spend the day with them and their gorgeous boys! Darryn is a 5 year old super star and is going to be SUCH a heart breaker! And precious baby William toughed it out, sniffles and all!

October - A month for family :)

Between Thanksgiving and all the wonderful photo shoots, this month is becoming very family oriented which I'm just loving!

My eldest sister Rochelle and her beautiful family spent the day with me in High Park this Thanksgiving Monday! Parking was a disaster but once on our feet and in the leaves we had a blast! I'll tell yah, my little niece Reese is QUITE the ham - what a goof!!

This blog is a very special one because it's going out to my sister for all the support and help she's given me towards my photography.
Together we selected a day and as my "PR Rep" she went full on and spread the word around her social network, which ended up leading into a full day of gorgeous fall family portraits!
What a fantastic day it was, and it was all thanks to her amazing efforts in helping me get my name buzzing around Guelph's young families!

So, Thanks Fess! You are the best big sister I could ever ask for!

I'm going to create a big blog to tribute each of the families I photographed on Sunday! But first I wanted to make a blog dedicated to my sister and her gorgeous family. Eybergen Wedding

This weekend Gemma and Ben Eybergen wed for the SECOND time! This was seriously the wedding that never ended!

Their official ceremony had taken place in Cuba on a stunning beach setting on a gorgeous blue sky day. Their second wedding was here at home so all of their family and friends who couldn't make the trip to Cuba could come celebrate with the Eybergen's too!

It's always a gamble for us regular folk who have ONE wedding day that the weather will be on our side. It must be meant to be because Gemma and Ben had TWO stunning blue sky days without a hint of rain in the forecast!

What a great couple! They are the definition of "laid back"! If it did rain, I don't think it would have even fazed them!

Thank you so much for having me apart of your day this weekend! I know you two will have such a fun life together!

Dancing Queens

My beautiful nieces had their dance recital on Sunday. I was so proud to see them taking on the stage with no fear and leading their other dance-mates on the floor! This was Addie's first time on the big stage, but you'd never know it while watching her. Both girls just had an amazing time up there and their faces glowed because of it!

I had a lovely stroll in the park today with Etobicoke's Green Party Candidate Dave Corail. In true Etobicoke style we visited Sam Smith Park, a gorgeous and massive park located right on the lake shore that is known for housing Humber College's Lakeshore Campus.

Maternity with Love

Daniela and I have been planning this maternity shoot forever and by the time we got our act together we had to book it fast because our window of "Maternity" is coming to a very near end!!

Bellezza Makeup Art

From 8:00 this morning Andria Dipanfilo, Guelph surrounding area's newest and most shockingly talented makeup artist, had the daunting task of getting 13 beautiful models done up before 1:30 that afternoon. Could she handle it? You bet!!

Today's Welcome Wagon Bridal Show at the Cutten Club in Guelph, was a huge success! Much of that success goes out to Andria Dipanfilo, of Bellezza Makeup Art, and Barbara Kwaitkowska, of Ladybug Bridal Wear for their organization of the fashion show, which of course was the main event!

I had the privilege of hanging out with Andria for the day and watching her create masterpiece after masterpiece on every model she was faced with. Quite a remarkable thing to watch as she raced to beat the clock! Andria does NOT play it safe with her make up art, she likes to have fun with colour and style! No two models looked remotely the same and I've got the pictures to prove it!

There was no digital retouching applied to any of these images for 3 reasons:
1. To display Andria's true abilities nothing must be altered.
2. As you can see from these images, nothing NEEDED to be altered! Andria did all the work for me!
3. And most importantly, these girls are gorgeous and flawless to start! We couldn't have asked for better models!

Ryan Laird - Country Artist

In 2007, country musician, Ryan Laird and I worked together to create a series of portraits to promote his music as he pushed head first into Nashville's open arms.

ISRAEL

I've been looking through travel blogs of other amazing photographers lately and have found myself wishing that I could travel and capture the beauties of this world. I want to be out there, and open to experiences that only seem to happen when you're far away from home. One day I'll venture somewhere new. Maybe not this year, But it will definitely happen.

In May 2006 I went to Israel with group of 20 photographers, and we traveled the entire country in two weeks capturing everything we did and saw. I began to realize that while I dream of capturing more of this world and creating more art, I have quite beautiful and unique art already created, hiding away. So, I'm bringing my Israel collection out from under the dust, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
